Fast forward to October 9th, this year, 2023.  Oh my goodness. How the skyline has filled in. All those awful gleaming glass heat-sink towers.  And check out the new Alexandra pier with its gleaming glass tower. The Canadiens condos keep proliferating on the left. And the new towers in the Place des Arts neighbourhood behind the cruise ship (the Viking Star) keep going up, amongst others. Where's the Mountain?

Well, here is the first photo of the series proper.  It was taken on October 5th, 2016, so just over 7 years ago. Note that the Alexandra pier has not yet been turned into a cruise ship terminal, it looks ancient and crumbling. A large red painted ship, one of the "lakers" that goes between Montreal and the Great Lake ports, has docked, unladen (note how high it rides in the water) at the pier, perhaps for its winter mooring.  The big concrete block-like wharf to the left is the Bickerdike pier. Classic Montreal skyline - you can see a fair bit of the Mountain, including the cross on the far right. It is almost devoid of construction cranes - one is visible on the far left, part of the Montreal Canadiens Tower condo complex. It is nice that you can see the old metal hoppers on top of the huge long unused grain silo on the left - part of the Montreal port industrial heritage.  This looks like a "nice", uncluttered city...far from the glass horror of the Toronto (or e...
