The Ice Canoe Challenge has returned for the first time in four years. 30 teams of crazies (?) both paddling in the open water and running with their boats on the ice, round and round. You can see the boats better in this more zoomed shot:
Mid February and one of the two cargo ships that shuttles between St. John's and Montreal is backing out of the harbour. Warm outside, with a haze hanging over the city. Pollution? Probably.
Last week it got a little colder so this tug was out in the harbour acting as a mini-icebreaker. A couple of hours later a freighter sailed in and docked to the Bickerdike pier to the left of this picture. The ice looked at least a couple of inches thick.
No sooner do I take the above shot of the ice patterns in the harbour does the local newspaper publish almost the same shot, from a slightly different perspective! Where was the photographer? Sneaking around at Habitat? Hmmm...more than likely he used a drone.... (photo credit the Montreal Gazette )
