Finally getting cold up here, although only -10 C.  The harbour would be frozen solid except the weekly Newfoundland cargo ships are still coming in with the tugs breaking up the ice beforehand for them.  Sun has just risen and is reflecting off the glass building in old Montreal.

Last night we had a mini-ice storm...nowhere near as bad as the famous one that hit Montreal in the late 1990's, but there were ice sheets up to a centimeter thick sliding off the roof all night. Ugh.

January 12th, an almost bluebird winter day with a crisp skyline framed by a slight white haziness.  The harbour is beginning to freeze.

Well winter finally did really arrive in the 2nd week of January. This was the beginning of a snowy few days starting on the 7th.

Contrast this to early January 2022 - looks colder and definitely more snow than even last year.  Where have our winters gone?  I pity the ski hills this year.  Man-made concrete snow (ice?) is no fun.  But hey, at least we're not freezing our asses off!

Well early January has been very boring - same old, same old - dull grey skies, little sun, below freezing but still no snow!  So I am showing a shot from last year about the same time - a little snow but moody fog over the harbour.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  This is an old photograph from 2017 as the city has decided not to celebrate the new year with midnight fireworks any more. Probably a wise choice given how polluting such shenanigans are - but as far as I know the larger international fireworks competition in the summer on St. Helen's island will continue.  Go figure.
